This is just an update on how the PhD is going for all those who didn't ask. I finally got my main exercise study approved by the Research Ethics Committee (REC). Well, they didn't 'approve' it exactly, they gave a 'favourable opinion'. Either way, I have been given the go-ahead to get stuck in and started!!!
This study, titled 'a randomised controlled trial of exercise for improving insulin sensitivity in postmenopausal women who are overweight or obese receiving adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer', is a randomised controlled trial (RCT) which will determine if an exercise intervention is feasible for a population of postmenopausal breast cancer patients who are overweight or obese. To do this, we will be prescribing an acute (single bout) and 12-week exercise intervention consisting of aerobic and resistance exercise components.
So far, we have met with some clinicians from the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (the trust we will be working with) to discuss the next steps. I'll make sure to keep this space updated!
